Transforming Conflicts: Key Perspectives on Nonviolent Action

The Regional Institute’s video podcasts are a new space for dialogue, reflection, and learning dedicated to nonviolent action. Through in-depth interviews, this format seeks to give voice to prominent academics, researchers, and activists with extensive experience in this field, who will share their key findings, insights, and experiences.

This new initiative aims to bring the public closer to the most recent knowledge and the most relevant experiences related to nonviolent action, contributing to the dissemination of ideas, strategies, and practices that promote social change from an ethical and transformative perspective.

The video podcasts will be produced in both English and Spanish, with the aim of strengthening access to this information and, especially, of keeping Spanish-speaking audiences informed about the latest advances, debates, and contributions in the field of nonviolent action.

EP. 1

Resisting Without Violence in Contexts of Violations

In this video podcast, we interview Basque human rights activist and transitional justice expert Carlos Martín Beristain at the facilities of Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador (PUCE). Mauricio Burbano Alarcón and Paola Lozada conducted the interview on nonviolent action in community contexts. According to the expert, the forms of resistance that emerge in contexts of violence are diverse and adapt to the realities of the actors involved. Beristain identifies two forms of resistance: one that is more open, formal, and planned, and another that is more indirect and present in everyday life. Both reveal the existence of a living social fabric that continues to organize and transform itself even in the most atrocious realities.

EP. 2

Resisting and Connecting: Stories from Microsociology

How can a conflict be transformed without resorting to violence? What do data, research, and real-life experiences tell us about the power of nonviolent action? In this second episode, we speak with Isabel Bramsen, Associate Professor at Lund University and Director of Peace and Conflict Studies, about key findings that are reshaping the way we understand resistance, dialogue, and social transformation.
